Raleigh native Mark Brunetz, the co-host of the Style Network's "" television show, has co-authored a new book on how to make your home clutter-free.
"Take the U Out of Clutter: The Last Clutter Book You'll Ever Need" is part how-to and part self-help. Written along with author Carmen Renee Berry, the book offers advice on decluttering your home that doesn't include going out and buying more organizing bins. Their objective is to make readers recognize why they acquire so much stuff in the first place, and then motivate them to let go of the stories behind the things they save. To depersonalize objects so that they no longer feel attachments to them.
Brunetz and Berry use later chapters in the book to shatter common excuses we all use for not getting rid of stuff -- excuses like "I might need this someday" and "I've had this since I was a child."
If you're a hard core hoarder, you probably need more help than this book can provide, but overall it seems to be a useful, unique approach. I was disappointed at first that there aren't any photos in the book, because I equate "clutter free" and "organization" with "decorating." But that's not really what this book is about. "Taking the U Out of Clutter" is about getting rid of stuff we don't need, not about organizing it in cute baskets.
Decluttering is familiar ground for Brunetz, because the "Clean House" show on Style is also about taking control of the clutter in your home (Niecy Nash, Matt Iseman, and Trish Suhr are also featured hosts of the show).
Brunetz grew up in Raleigh, where his mother still lives, and graduated from East Carolina University.
"Clean House" airs on Style pretty much every day. Here's if you want to catch some episodes this weekend.
